Italian restaurant Fiorella‘s latest location in the Inner Sunset section of San Francisco is now home to Bar Nonnina. The intimate cocktail concept was crafted by locally based creative agency STUDIO by Lark as a moodier, more modern take on a refined nona’s sitting room.
“The design called for a mood of an affluent Milano retired in the countryside bringing the decadence of the city to a charmed space,” STUDIO by Lark says. “The color palette was inspired by a 1975 Helmut Newton portrait, Villa d’Este, taken in Lake Como.”
Bar Nonnina awaits beyond Fiorella’s rooftop dining room and a narrow corridor lined with blue and white wallpaper. The space, which can accommodate up to 14 guests across the standing bar and communal bar-height oak tables, is anchored by a dimly lit fireplace and a sumptuous bar comprising green marble and terracotta. Reminiscent of red wine, deep burgundy hues also accent the atmosphere, while decorate wainscoting frames mural wallpaper that depicts the Italian countryside. “We wanted the space to feel uncomplicated,” the designers add. “With this layout, every guest has the opportunity to gaze into the dim light or have a fireside conversation with the hosting bartender.”
