Contemporary restaurant and bar Dovetail is now open at Viceroy Washington DC. The indoor-outdoor destination draws upon the distinctive verve of the nation’s capital with a colorful, eclectic aesthetic crafted by EDG Design.
“Our primary goal was to fit into the Logan Circle neighborhood while reflecting its creative spirit. We wanted to give the restaurant a fresh look with a nod to the neighborhood’s history,” says EDG director of creative strategy Pieter Stougaard. “The name reflects our desire to dovetail into the energy of Logan Circle and provide a place to bond over great meals and lively conversation.”
Located on the hotel’s first floor, Dovetail welcomes visitors with an intimate dining room distinguished by midcentury-style shingles and traditional details—from woodwork to dining chairs that nod to the neighborhood’s Victorian-era architecture. Blue mosaic floor tiles and vibrant yellow upholstery line the space, complementing a mural by No Kings Collective that graces the hotel façade.
The bar commands attention with a face of blue ceramic tiles and brass accents illuminated by overhead brass globe pendants. Large windows further reinforce the setting along with a covered patio conceived as a community living room complete with a faux lawn and topiary elements. “Dovetail and the entire hotel feel apart from the political fray of DC,” Stougaard adds. “This is a ‘people’s place’ to gather, socialize, discover, and partake in the unique composition of Logan Circle.”
