Hotel Viu Milan has opened in the city’s hip Porta Volta neighborhood, standing out with lush vertical gardens and a façade wrapped in sustainably sourced wood, metal, and bronzed glass. Local architecture studio Arassociati found inspiration in the surrounding area’s ongoing revitalization.
Arassociati and fellow Milanese firm Nicola Gallizia Studio collaborated on the interiors, which are flooded with natural light thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows. A neutral palette of walnut, durmast, and rosewood span the property’s public spaces as well as the 124 guestrooms and suites alongside locally sourced furnishings. The light and airy lobby welcomes guests with an oversized fireplace and original artwork.
The space is anchored by the eatery and social hub Bulk, which includes an open kitchen. Custom lighting casts chef Giancarlo Morelli’s eponymous gourmet dining concept in a darker hue than the overall palette. The restaurant includes a 12-seat kitchen table that affords unique access to the cuisine. The onsite spa is equipped with a sauna, steam room, and 24-hour expansive fitness center.
The hotel is crowned with the city’s only rooftop hotel pool, maximizing its backdrop of the cityscape. The pooldeck is appointed with teak lounge furniture amidst Mediterranean olive trees. Private terraces on the first and seventh floors embrace the urban setting, while local firm AG&P Greenscape crafted the hotel’s network of planters and cables that form a botanical waterfall complete with locally sourced flora.
