Henning Larsen and Ramboll have revealed renderings of Marmormolen, a mixed-use office structure proposed for development in the Nordhavn district of Copenhagen. Spread across eight stories and more than 300,000 square feet, the project, upon completion in 2024, would become one of the largest contemporary timber designs in Denmark. Construction is set to begin next year.
“Workplaces used to be very interior and exclusive, but people today want to feel they are a part of a more diverse community and open up to their surroundings,” says Henning Larsen associate design director Mikkel Eskildsen, who will also serve as lead design architect on the project. “With Marmormolen, we want to create more than a great office building, we also want it to give something back to the city and makes the building come alive—even outside office hours.”
AP Pension, the Danish pension fund, will serve as the main tenant of Marmormolen, which will be heralded by a lush green plaza. The design will comprise one large cube subdivided into a series of smaller cubes that will each be crowned with a rooftop terrace and garden.
Interiors on the ground floor will be defined by flexibility and an openness that reinforces the waterfront setting. The open plan will also promote Marmormolen as a vibrant marketplace of ideas, with spaces like a large cantina and auditorium anchoring the space. Upper levels will house offices that overlook the sea and Copenhagen skyline, while a large central courtyard will be accessible from all floors as well.
