American jeweler Seaman Schepps has inaugurated its New York flagship along iconic Madison Avenue. Designed by Penny Drue Baird, the bi-level store channels Parisian salons to instill a continental-style elegance that complements the jewels on display. “The boutique stands out amongst Madison Avenue retailers for having a residential versus commercial feel,” Baird says. “When you enter, you are welcomed into a warm and comfortable atmosphere and you are instantly part of the Seaman Schepps family.”
Nearly 50 feet of windows herald the space, which will rotate seasonally and include original watercolor backdrops by locally based artist and designer Diana Heimann. A soft palette of blue and beige establishes a welcoming backdrop for décor like a 19th-century Italian Rococo mirror, a Baccarat steel and crystal chandelier, and an angled walnut vitrine. Velvet, wood, and bronze accents further instill warmth throughout the interior, further conveying the residential sensibility.
Both levels are linked by a spiral staircase handpainted in a faux steel and warm walnut finish. “As you are ushered through the front door, you are enveloped in pale blue walls, creamy beige woods, and soft cut velvets,” adds Seaman Schepps owner Anthony Hopenhajm. “The room feels like a comfortable living room. This luxurious, elegant space is born of a sophisticated New York—echoing the bold innovative Seaman Schepps jewels in the salon’s vitrines.”
