Design studio S-P-A-C-E has crafted an immersive new boutique in the heart of Amsterdam. Designed for fashion label Stieglitz, Stieglitz Experience transports guests back to the days of midcentury shag and sophistication with a textural landscape adorned with fluffy carpeting from floor to ceiling. The huggable surfaces not only deliver a flamboyant visual impact, but also promote comfort, transforming the interior into one large communal seating area.
“The space is built out of carpet, which referred to the time that inspires Stieglitz,” says S-P-A-C-E founder Pepijn Smit. “A time of Verner Panton, Pierre Paulin, Stanley Kubrick, or Joe Colombo. But also a time of Woodstock. A time where communal seating areas, carpet floorings, and hairy staircases were not uncommon. And, yes, also a time of love and peace and a positive view on a makeable future.”
A hazy color story of rich red and orange hues nods to the saturated shades of yesteryear as they wrap floors and walls. Display fixtures are softened with exteriors of chocolatey brown shag, while rounded forms further channel the 1960s and ’70s alongside a femininity reflective of the womenswear brand.
In addition to the retail area and the in-house atelier on the ground floor, an upstairs office is accessed via a furry staircase.
