Hospitality firm Method Co., in collaboration with James Beard-awarded chef Jason Stanhope, has launched two dining experiences in Charleston, South Carolina. The opening of Lowland tavern and the Quinte oyster bar mark the completion of boutique hotel the Pinch, designed in partnership with Morris Adjmi Architects.
Located within the historic Lequeux-Williams House, a Greek revival-style building from 1834, Lowland offers various distinct dining experiences. The ground floor is characterized by a laid-back tavern atmosphere, while a more formal dining room can be found on the second. Outdoors, Ellis Alley features al fresco dining atop cobblestones and reclaimed Belgian stone.
Lowland Tavern’s design, crafted by Method Co.’s in-house team Method Studios, evokes the ambiance of a classic English pub, incorporating folk art, taxidermy, and vintage secession chairs from Czechoslovakia. Remnants from a 1890s renovation are seamlessly woven together with contemporary design elements. A antiqued copper bar, exposed rough-sawn wooden beams, Venetian damask wallpaper, and a meticulously restored wood-burning fireplace flanked by leather armchairs round out the space.
Upstairs, the dining room offers an elegant setting for intimate private dining. The space is swathed in a handpainted mural by artist Dean Barger, creating a romantic and layered atmosphere reminiscent of the aesthetics of Japanese painter Hasegawa Tohaku.
The Quinte—named after a billiards hall that opened in the same location in 1918—has also reopened following a transformation led by Method Studios, Stokes Architecture + Design, and Stanhope. The new iteration of the oyster bar is moody and quirky, inspired by Jacques Cousteau’s aquatic adventures, featuring handpainted globe lights by artist Reverend Michael Alan, draped sails, and a Wes Anderson-inspired color palette. A custom 12-seat marble oyster bar is complemented by custom floral mosaic Calcutta marble tile flooring, stained wood paneling, and a curated collection of vintage prints and oil paintings.
“We’re thrilled to announce the grand completion of the Pinch,” says Randall Cook, cofounder and CEO of Method Co. “The official opening of the Pinch marks exactly what we set out to accomplish—providing a beautiful place to stay alongside incredible culinary concepts to bring memorable new experiences to each city we touch.”
