Set on the shores of Italy’s Lake Como, the historic Grand Hotel Tremezzo dates back to 1910—enduring both world wars, conversion to a military hospital, and changes in its clientele. Each winter the hotel closes and renovates, this year refreshing the Lake View rooms and the historic Suite Aurelia.

More than 30 Lake View Prestige rooms have been refurbished, creating elegant interiors that reflect the beauty of the lake.

The rooms boast floor-to-ceiling windows and colors drawn from the surrounding landscape.

Along with refurbishing the antique wood floors, the team brought in furniture from the Grand Hotel Tremezzo antiques collection. The sofas were designed by the De Santis mother and her best friend and crafted by a local artisan.

Fabrics in the guestrooms are silks produced in Como, which is known for its luxury silks. The curtains are silk taffeta, and sofas are furnished with silk velvet.

Marking the hotel’s fourth historical suite, Suite Aurelia pays homage to a revered member of the owning family who is celebrating her 90th birthday this year.

The bathroom contrasts the vivid colors of the space with elegant yellow and gray marble from Verona.

The suite’s design reflects the lake hues and is filled with antiques from the Grand Dame’s own collection, including an 18th-century oil painting and a baroque mirror.
