Owner and designer Steve Hermann transformed the former Horizon Hotel, a retreat built by architect William Cody in 1952 for Hollywood director Jack Wrather, into L’Horizon, a luxury resort and spa featuring 25 freestanding private bungalows.

Hermann maintained the integrity of the original structures, including the clean, flat lines that allow for breathtaking views of the San Jacinto mountains from all corners of the resort’s three acres.

Rows of white lounge chairs line the property’s infinity-edged pool.

Hermann clad the bungalow’s low-slung ceilings in Douglas fir tongue and groove to give each a cozy, vintage feel. 

Collectible vintage pieces are mixed with bespoke modern furniture made by high-end, small batch manufacturers to give each bungalow the feel of a renovated midcentury modern home.

Bungalows are outfitted with floor-to-ceiling glass walls that break down the distinction between indoor and outdoor space.
