The design team added breaks and borders to the pleated red oak wrapping the bar and walls of the interior to create rhythm and texture.

The 18-seat bar serves as the restaurant’s nucleus and adds an overall kinetic quality to the space.

A handpainted rendering of the restaurant’s savvy fox mascot, designed by Vancouver-based graphic design firm Glasfurd & Walker, adorns the glass windows of the façade. 

Two matching prints from artist Edoardo de Falchi are punctured through by identical art lights, exemplifying the whimsical and occasionally contradictory nature of the design.

Anchoring the restaurant is the open kitchen with woodfired oven, framed by custom shelves stocked with homey decorations like preserves, books, and logs. 

Shelving acts as a curio display, bookshelf, and pantry.

The space’s muted color palette is balanced by upholstered bench seating in a clothing-inspired pattern and quarry tiles on the floors.

Italian religious iconography and modernist designs from Bruno Munari and Carlo Mollino inspired much of the aesthetic, which is particularly evident in the restaurant’s custom light fixtures.

Striving for the appearance of a traditional roadside tavern, Stanghetta and his team embraced a variety of simple and earthen materials and colors punctuated by bucolic artwork.
