Metropolitan by Como, London was launched in 1997 next to Hyde Park—the inspiration behind its recent revamp. Headed by locally based Forme UK, the renovation included all guestrooms and public spaces, as well as the creation of nine new suites and a reconfigured 10th floor with two additional penthouse suites.

“Our palette was influenced by the natural beauty found within the flora of Hyde Park,” explains Forme’s design director Linzi Coppick of the lobby, where she juxtaposed upholstery in green and berry hues with walnut timber elements, green carpet inset in stone, and a mix of contemporary furniture.

In the lobby, a slot-like window was carved out to display a linear fireplace inside and a level water table on the exterior. Chairs and stools of varying heights sit next to suspended retro-style walnut hoops that discreetly divide the space.

Across the vestibule, a new reception desk sits in front of an alcove with distressed two-tone leather panels. A light colored stone fascia is illuminated to augment its undulating texture.

“We introduced fresh palettes and textures in the guestrooms, which feature a vibrant barley color that is offset against neutral tones and dark timber to create a zesty spring-like ambience,” explains Coppick.

Naturally inspired guestrooms, such as the Como suite (shown), boast sculptural ceramic pendant lamps and large timber-framed beds, which feature a headboard upholstered in ochre-colored material.

Typical accommodations feature an oversized window seat and silk-like curtains striped in burnt umber, silver, and bronze colors, as well as fret-cut panels with abstract patterns.

The residentially inspired Como suite includes furniture with blue denim-like upholstery arranged on pale timber flooring and rugs with geometric motifs.

A Japanese-style bathroom in the Penthouse suite features a spa-like atmosphere with lacquered joinery and rainfall showers set against back-painted glass.
