Located in Porto Cheli, the Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Porto Heli was designed by Beirut-based Gatserelia Nawar & Associates in collaboration with Greek firm Arch Group, which crafted the modern seaside property with a blend of signature brand elements and locally inspired materials.

The 66-key hotel centers on a modern lobby concept that emphasizes a “view of the beach behind the foreground of white and light with a touch of greenery,” says co-founder Gregory Gatserelia. Contemporary furniture is juxtaposed with rustic wood pieces throughout the open space.

A predominantly neutral palette is enhanced with unique lighting applications, such as a lobby column featuring deconstructed algae-inspired panels that sprawl across the ceiling, forming a backlit, tree-shaped silhouette.

Wrapping around the column, curvaceous lounge seating is accented by softly hued pillows, while inset shelving displays books and colorful curios.

In reference to the lobby’s beachy design, minimalist accommodations boast views of the gulf and Aegean Sea, reflective walls, white metal and sanded glass table lamps, as well as suspended rattan lights and wood-colored ceramic flooring that lend a feeling of warmth.

“Ambient lighting and décor create a modern-ethnic mood, a sort of cozy feeling that you could find in a typical Greek beach house,” says Gatserelia, who created a slated wall installation behind the beds in certain rooms. With integrated lighting arranged at alternating heights, the headboard-like piece serves as art in its own right.
