Dallas-based SHOP Development has launched Larch House, a 39-key luxury boutique hotel in Whitefish, Montana, designed by Olson Kundig with landscape architecture by Bud Creative.
Set within the town’s historic Railway District, the property is conceived as an intimate alpine enclave. Rather than a single structure, Larch House comprises 10 buildings arranged around shared outdoor spaces. At the heart of the property is a central courtyard anchored by an architectural boulder garden and fire pits, creating a natural gathering point for guests.
Additional amenities include a rooftop heated pool and sundeck overlooking downtown Whitefish, a curated F&B program, and a private event space.
Modern Alpine interiors by Olson Kundig
The interiors reflect a modern Alpine sensibility, layering custom furnishings with tactile materials and detailing. Throughout the hotel, guests encounter a thoughtfully curated art collection featuring works by David Yarrow, Sam Reveles, Kate Hunt, and Theodore Waddell, alongside original works by local Whitefish artist Madeline Boyle in each guestroom.
“Larch House serves as both a launch pad into the beautiful, big-sky landscape of Whitefish, Montana, and a place of refuge after time spent in that wild landscape,” says Tom Kundig, founder and principal of Olson Kundig.
The guest experience is intentionally residential in spirit. Accommodations range from expansive Cabin Suites with fireplaces, alcoves, and neighborhood views to Larch House Suites that offer direct access to dining venues and unobstructed mountain views. Longhouse King Rooms open directly onto the courtyard, while the more intimate Larch House Queen Rooms cater to solo travelers seeking a cozy yet refined retreat.
Dining at Larch House
The culinary experience at Larch House draws inspiration from Alpine traditions while celebrating local ingredients.
Enga anchors the dining program as a light-filled, indoor-outdoor restaurant on the main floor. Above, the Terrace offers a relaxed rooftop setting for cocktails and small plates, pairing sweeping views with sunset gatherings.
Slated to open in the spring, the Antler Room will introduce a moody, lower-level lounge for evening drinks and shared plates, while the Oak Room will provide a refined, private venue for bespoke dining experiences, tastings, and celebrations.
