A grand private villa perched high above Punta Caiega in Liguria, Italy has begun a striking new chapter.
Following a revamp by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, the historic Villa Beatrice, originally built in 1913 as a summer retreat for Ligurian industrialist Attilio Odero, has reemerged as a glamorous five-suite hideaway overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio.
Set amid lush terraced gardens that cascade to the sea, the three-story estate is a masterwork of architectural heritage and refined Italian lifestyle. The villa offers a contemporary interpretation of la dolce vita, complete with a 24-hour butler, private chef, yoga instructor, and personal trainer.
A dramatic main terrace accommodates up to 30 guests for al fresco dining and celebrations, while a second guesthouse, La Casetta, provides an additional suite, plunge pool, and vine-covered pergola tucked into the gardens.
History revived at Villa Beatrice
Originally designed by Tuscan architect Gino Coppedè—known for his eclectic style blending Art Nouveau, Neo-Renaissance, and Gothic Revival—the villa is adorned with sculptural details, intricate stucco work, wrought iron, frescoes, arched windows, and marble columns. A whimsical torretta crowns the residence, making it a striking landmark along the Ligurian coastline.
Brudnizki’s revitalization honors this legacy with a relaxed, layered sensibility. Frescoes and geometric murals have been restored, while interiors are enriched with terracotta and Genovese grit marble floors, Palissandro blue marble bathrooms, and custom Italian textiles produced in nearby mills.
The color palette plays out as a symphony of sandy yellows, earthy greens, lobster pinks, and sunbaked terracotta that mirrors the town’s natural and architectural tones.
The design incorporates local auction finds, artisan-made pieces, and estate treasures—from scagliola-finished surfaces and ceramic lamp bases to bedside tables inlaid with Vienna straw that nod to the iconic Chiavari chair.
“We wanted guests to feel that they had been welcomed into a cherished family villa, lovingly enriched by successive generations,” says Brudnizki. “Each element tells the story of the house itself.”
Guests of Villa Beatrice can enjoy access to the facilities at its nearby sister hotels, Splendido and Splendido Mare.
