Genoa-based Costa Cruises has appointed New York-based hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany as the first creative director for the brand’s two new ships. Scheduled for delivery in 2019 and 2020, the ships will be outfitted by a group of designers under Tihany’s leadership.
Inspired by a theme dubbed “Italy’s Finest”—which represents the brand values of passion, quality, hospitality, and style—the layout of the ships will also reflect comments and suggestions from Costa guests.
“It is a rare honor to narrate a design story from the director’s chair,” says Tihany. “The fact that this opportunity creates a partnership with Costa Cruises is all the more extraordinary.”
The new Costa ships will be the first in the industry to be powered by liquefied natural gas. Built in the Meyer shipyard in Turku, Finland, each of the ships exceeds 180,000 gross tons, offering more than 2,600 passenger cabins for a total of 6,600 passengers per trip.
