San Francisco-based firm AXIS Architecture + Design has announced the promotion of senior associate architect Byung Kang as its newest partner. Kang, who joined AXIS in 2013, will now work alongside partners such as Cory Creath, Shawn Alexander, and Rory Carroll.
“Our firm prides itself on delivering beautiful yet common sense architectural solutions. One of Byung’s unique strengths from the start has been his ability to make functional spaces beautiful,” says Creath, the firm’s principal architect. “By their nature, large-scale commercial or institutional projects can easily default to uninspiring designs—Byung on the other hand has an uncanny ability to make even the most functional spaces uniquely welcoming.”
Kang has led major AXIS projects such as the renovations of the Aloft LAX and the Fairfield Inn and Suites at LAX as well as the Bancroft and Dutton Avenue multifamily housing projects in San Leandro, California.
