The School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York has announced the appointment of Carol Bentel as the new interior design chair. Bentel, cofounding principal of Locust Valley, New York-based firm Bentel & Bentel will succeed Jane Smith.
In addition to her tenure at her eponymous firm, Bentel has served on the faculty for the New York Institute of Technology’s School of Architecture, the New York City College of Technology—CUNY, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the Georgia Institute of Technology. In addition, she has served as the chairperson of the American Institute of America’s Committee on Design.
A former Fulbright Scholar, Bentel received a doctorate degree in history, theory, and criticism from the Department of Architecture from MIT; a master’s degree from North Carolina State University; and an LA in architecture from Washington University in St. Louis.
