Denver-based Silverwest Hotels has announced the appointment of David Thorpe as managing director of design and construction. In his new role, Thorpe will oversee nearly $40 million of renovation work currently underway at the company’s hotel properties.
Silverwest is presently planning the renovation of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa in Hawaii, the Inverness Hotel in Denver, and its three San Antonio properties. Thorpe will also oversee the construction of the Element by Westin in West Des Moines, Iowa, scheduled to open this spring.
“We are planning additional acquisitions and further new developments, so having Dave join us now is timely,” says Ed Mac, Silverwest’s CEO.
Thorpe joins Silverwest with more than 30 years of experience in real estate development and construction. Prior to joining the firm, he was the vice president of Denver-based Shaw Construction. Other previous positions include vice president of development for Vail Resorts Development Company, where he oversaw work done on the Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club, and worked on the development of the Arrabelle at Vail Square, a 500,000-square-foot, mixed-use development including a luxury hotel. Thorpe also provided technical construction support to RockResorts for renovations and hotel capital expenditure projects.
