The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has announced the appointment of Gary Wheeler to the role of CEO. Most recently serving as interim CEO, the organization has finalized its decision to promote Wheeler to the permanent executive position.
Bringing forth more than 40 years of industry experience, Wheeler has helmed practices including Perkins&Will, Gensler, and HDR. A member of ASID since he was a student, Wheeler was been recognized by the organization with numerous honors, including the Design of Distinction in 1999, granted fellowship, and he was elected National ASID president in 1994. Furthermore, Wheeler has received the Senior Fellow Award from the Design Future Council and was named an IIDA Fellow.
“ASID is fortunate to have benefitted from Gary’s strong and faithful management to guide us through unprecedented times,” says ASID COO Charles Jewett. “Due to his unmatched design career and exemplary leadership abilities, we had tremendously high expectations for Gary when he assumed the role of Interim CEO, and he has exceeded everyone. Because of this, we have complete confidence that his valuable efforts will continue to carry out our vision as the permanent CEO.”
