Bill Hellmuth has officially taken over as CEO of HOK. His predecessor, Patrick MacLeamy has moved to the position of chairman in a planned succession move.
Based in the firm’s Washington, DC office, Hellmuth has been HOK president since 2005. His promotion to CEO marks the first time since 1990 that the company will be run by a design principal.
“Design excellence will define our future,” says Hellmuth. “I joined HOK in 1991 for the opportunity to be part of a practice that had the opportunity to do the best design work of its time. We’re now creating design solutions that address some of the world’s greatest challenges. We’ll continue broadening the scope of our creativity and problem solving and using design thinking to strengthen our design culture. This will continue to attract the best people and clients to HOK.”
During his time with HOK, Hellmuth has assisted in the development and completion of 35 buildings in the DC area, amongst many other projects. HOK currently has projects underway in 75 different countries including the 74-story Abu Dhabi National Oil Company Headquarters, the new Terminal B at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, and the 80-story Capital Market Authority Tower in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
