The 2019 James Beard Awards were presented on May 6th at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Included among this year’s nominees are the Restaurant Design awards, which were selected by a jury that included Anda Andrei, Wendy Goodman, Jon Gray, Casey Jones, Kelsey Keith, and Stacy Shoemaker Rauen, editor in chief of Hospitality Design magazine and vice president of Hospitality Design Group. A new category, Other Eating & Drinking Places, was also added this year.
Seoul-based firm Studio Writers took home this year’s prize for Outstanding Restaurant Design (75 seats and under) for New York restaurant Atomix, while New York-based firm Parts and Labor won in the category of Outstanding Design (76 seats and over) for its design of Chicago eatery Pacific Standard Time. San Francisco-based practice Schwartz and Architecture was named the inaugural winner of Other Eating & Drinking Places for its design of El PÃpila in San Francisco.
