Prolific and celebrated interior designer Larry Kravet died on March 7th at the age of 92. Kravet transformed the small, New York-based fabric company S. Kravet and Sons into Kravet Inc., the largest trade wholesaler of decorative homegoods in North America. The company, which owns brands including Kravet, Lee Jofa, Brunschwig & Fils, Groundworks, and G.P.&J. Baker, celebrates its 100th anniversary this year as well.
A Brooklyn native and World War II veteran, Kravet graduated from Long Island University with a business degree in 1948 and joined S. Kravet and Sons in 1949—the same year he married Utta Falkowitz. Following his service during the Korean War, Kravet returned to New York to resume his tenure at Kravet, where he continued to work for the next 60 years.
Kravet is survived by his wife, brother, three children, and five grandchildren.
