The latest Hotel Construction Pipeline Trend Reports from Lodging Econometrics show that Europe’s construction pipeline has jumped 22 percent year-over-year (YOY), while Latin America’s pipeline has dropped 4 percent. Europe overall holds a pipeline of 1,228 projects and 189,490 guestrooms, while Latin America maintains a pipeline of 855 projects and 146,307 guestrooms.
Europe currently has 586 projects and 95,775 guestrooms under construction, up 17 percent YOY. Projects scheduled to start construction within the next 12 months are up 51 percent YOY with 388 projects and 58,008 guestrooms. Projects in early planning are up 2 percent, with 254 projects and 35,707 guestrooms. Latin America holds 413 projects and 72,070 guestrooms under construction, a YOY increase of 1 percent, and has 192 projects and 31,896 guestrooms scheduled to begin construction with the next 12 months for a 5 percent increase YOY. Latin American projects in early planning are down 17 percent YOY, with 250 projects and 42,341 guestrooms.
The UK leads the European Construction pipeline with 228 projects and 34,614 guestrooms, trailed by Germany and France, which hold 185 projects and 36,221 guestrooms, and 116 projects and 14,672 guestrooms in their pipelines, respectively. Cities in Europe with the largest pipeline include London (17 projects and 14,234 guestrooms), Paris (37 projects and 6,748 guestrooms), and Moscow (28 projects and 5,541 guestrooms).
Brazil leads Latin America’s Construction pipeline with 295 projects and 49,493 guestrooms, with Mexico (190 projects and 34,736 guestrooms) and Colombia (72 projects and 10,828 guestrooms) rounding out the top 3. Cities in Latin America with the largest pipelines are São Paulo (28 projects and 5,283 guestrooms) and Lima (28 projects and 4,710 guestrooms).
The top hotel companies in Europe’s construction pipeline are: AccorHotels (213 projects and 26,994 rooms), Hilton Worldwide (166 projects and 25,956 rooms), and Marriott International (163 projects and 27,993 rooms). The largest brand in the pipeline for each of the these companies are: Accor’s Ibis Styles with 49 projects and 6,126 rooms, Hilton’s Hampton Inn & Suites with 68 projects and 10,189 rooms, and Marriott’s Moxy with 51 projects and 9,290 rooms.
AccorHotels also leads Latin America’s development pipeline with 142 projects and 20,785 guestrooms followed by Marriott (92 projects and 15,080 guestrooms) and Hilton (69 projects and 11,059 guestrooms). The largest brands in the pipeline for each of these companies are Accor’s Ibis with 54 projects and 7,134 guestrooms; Marriott’s full-service hotel with 13 projects and 2,568 guestroom; and Hilton’s Garden Inn with 20 projects and 3,031 guestrooms.
