McKibbon Hotel Group will partner with Starwood Hotels & Resorts on the newly launched Tribute Portfolio, a collection of 4-star, upscale hotels, to include the forthcoming Vandre Nouveau Hotel in addition to more than 100 hotels by 2020.
Located in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, the 150-room independent hotel will be the first developed by McKibbon and housed in McKibbon and Tower Associates’ BB&T Bank building—downtown Asheville’s tallest building. The hotel’s name is a play on the name of architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and means “to stroll or wander.” Mies Van der Rohe’s contemporary influence is apparent in the BB&T Bank building, which will be known as the Nouveau Tower. Upon completion in 2017, the property will join sister McKibbon Hotel Group properties the AC Asheville and Aloft.
“We have created a perfect partnership with Starwood and Tower Associates,” says John McKibbon, chairman of McKibbon Hotel Group. “We all have a deep affinity for Asheville and its history and look forward to the Vandre Nouveau Hotel being the epicenter of the downtown area.”
“Having lived and worked in Asheville for over 50 years, I can speak for my team in saying we are so excited about the development of the Vandre Nouveau Hotel and the impact it will have on our community,” says Glenn Wilcox, chairman and president of Tower Associates. “The hotel is sure to be a catalyst to the continued revitalization of downtown Asheville.”
Amenities will include a signature restaurant, lobby bar, and more than 4,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
Next month, McKibbon also plans to break ground on AC by Marriott and Residence Inn by Marriott, a dual-branded hotel tower in uptown in Charlotte, North Carolina’s EpiCentre, and the 144-room Aloft in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, slated to open this November.
