Following the acquisition of the Cheli & Peacock group of companies, Minor Hotel Group (MHG) has added six camps in Kenya to its global portfolio, merging the former with its Elewana Collection to form a collection of 14 camps, lodges, and boutique beach hotels located in parks and conservancies in northern Tanzania, Kenya, and the island of Zanzibar.
“We are delighted about this partnership,” says Karim S. Wissanji, chairman and CEO, of the Elewana Collection. “The combination of Cheli & Peacock’s longstanding history and experience of safaris, and our now enhanced regional product offering will deliver a truly genuine and memorable destination experience for all our mutual clients.”
The Cheli & Peacock Kenya properties include Elsa’s Kopje, located in view of Meru National Park; Elephant Pepper Camp, located in the Mara North Conservancy wilderness area; Joy’s Camp, located in Shaba National Reserve; Tortillis Camp within Amboseli National Park; the six-tent Kitich Camp, located in Matthews Forest; and Lewa Safari Camp within Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.
Under the leadership of founders Stefano and Liz Cheli, tour operator Cheli & Peacock Safaris will continue to act independently of the Elewana Collection.
“Liz and myself have been immersed in Kenyan safari holidays since we first started guiding mobile safari camps 30 years ago,” says Stefano Cheli. “This merger will allow us to take our combined experience and really focus on the intricacies that go towards guaranteeing guests an outstanding safari experience in a wider region of East Africa.”
Following the merger, MHG now has a portfolio of 25 properties in seven African countries across its Anantara, AVANI, and Elewana Collection brands. A fourth brand is slated for this year when the Essque Zalu Zanzibar, which is managed by MHG, is rebranded as Per AQUUM. Additionally, two new North Africa Anantara resorts located in Tozeur, Tunisia and Tangier, Morocco are schedule to open in 2017.
