New York-based architecture firm MKDA has announced two new management changes in its Miami office. Senior project manager Brett Hertzler has been promoted to director of architecture, while Oscar I. Garcia is now director of hospitality.
Hertzler will assist MKDA in new mixed-use, hospitality, restaurant, retail, and residential undertakings as well as mentoring junior architects. Since joining the firm in 2014, he has worked on projects such as the 4.2-million-square-foot Miami development One Fifth and the Casa Mar resort and the Spanish Court Resorts in the Caribbean. A cum laude graduate of Florida Atlantic University, Hertzler previously served as an architect at Garcia + Ferrari Architecture and Interior Design.
Oscar I. Garcia.
“I am honored to perform the role of director of architecture with a team of professionals who share a similar creative vision, which is to create visually appealing buildings and spaces that respond to the behavioral and interactive needs of users and the community,” he says.
Garcia, who joined MKDA in 2015, has worked on Miami- and Caribbean-based projects along with Hertzler. In his new role, the Ball State University graduate will develop MKDA’s hospitality studio and also offer integrated technical and visual architectural solutions for complex projects. Garcia previously worked in Fort Lauderdale’s private sector.
“The MKDA hospitality studio is poised to produce inventive and tasteful architecture across South Florida, the Caribbean, and beyond,” Garcia says. “I am excited to help the team reach its potential as a leader in the field.”
