Perkins+Will has announced the appointment of Gregory T. Waugh to the firm’s New York office. Bringing over 40 years of experience in a range of large and complex building projects, Waugh will serve as director and senior project manager for projects in the corporate, commercial, and civic sectors, including Penn Medicine’s Center For Health Care Innovation in Philadelphia.
“Having worked with Greg in the past, I’m very pleased to welcome him to our team,” says Robert Goodwin, Perkins+Will’s New York design director. “Greg takes a creative approach to a variety of project challenges throughout the design and construction process. He’s able to translate conceptual designs into reality, carefully considering requirements for security, energy, constructability, and budget.”
Along with excelling at sustainable building, including creating the design of a structure with a LEED double platinum certification, Waugh is also the co-author of Construction In Cities: Social Political, Environmental and Economic Concerns with Patricia Lancaster.
“I’ve always had a strong interest in sustainability and resiliency, especially relating to commercial and workplace environments, which is one of the main reasons I admire Perkins+Will,” says Waugh. “The firm’s leadership in the field and emphasis on research and social responsibility reflect my own enthusiasm for uncovering the fullest potential of the design and construction process.”
Prior to joining Perkins+Will, Waugh completed large-scale office projects for Hyundai, the IRS, the City of New York, and BASF, among other clients. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, he volunteered to serve as a New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) special inspector to assist with rebuilding efforts. Waugh also contributed to the Red Hook Housing Sandy Renewal and Resiliency Program, and created the winning design for the Orange County Crime Victims’ Memorial in Irvine, California.
