Lodging Econometrics (LE) reports that U.S. hotel openings are expected to increase over the next two years.
Based on the current construction pipeline, 742 new hotels will open this year, with 845 new hotels to follow in 2016 and another 998 to open in 2017.
The report indicates that three major franchise companies will comprise an estimated 67 percent of the growth in 2016 and 2017. While Marriott International will lead with 456 openings, Hilton Worldwide and InterContinental Hotels Group will open 406 and 374 properties respectively.
LE’s U.S. Construction Pipeline Trend Report estimates that Marriott International will open 197 hotels with 22,563 rooms in 2016 and 259 hotels with 30,765 rooms in 2017—increasing the company’s total U.S. room count by 10 percent.
With a forecasted 131 new locations, Marriott’s Fairfield Inn brand will lead this growth in supply by the end of 2017.
