Two London designers, Sophie Ashby of Studio Ashby and Alexandria Dauley of Dauley Design, have teamed up to launch of a new charitable initiative. The partnership, United in Design, aims to address the lack of representation and diversity in the interior design industry. The new organization, which is currently focused on targeting the U.K., will provide business resources and empower designers to pledge their ongoing support.
“The issues of inequality and diversity across the interior design industry need to be addressed—the situation needs to change and the time to instigate that long-lasting, tangible change is now,” says Dauley. “We need to make interior design an accessible and obtainable career choice for people from diverse backgrounds, so United in Design will be working with the industry to tackle the obstacles preventing this—correcting the balance and leveling the playing field.”
Confirmed partners so far include the Creative Mentor Network and Interior Educators. In order to become a member of United in Design, businesses are required to adhere to three actions from a seven-point pledge.
