Gobal design firm WATG and Wimberly Interiors—founded by WATG’s Honolulu office in 1997—have debuted a new office in Shanghai.
WATG has a history in the region, having been the first U.S. firm commissioned to design an approved hotel in the People’s Republic of China in 1979. Located in the city’s upscale Jing’an district, the new office builds on this history and allows the firms to expand their regional presence and cater to Chinese clients interested in developing international hospitality projects.
“This is an important step in achieving our vision to provide inspired designs with a strong point of view around the world,” says Margaret McMahon, senior vice president and managing director of Wimberly Interiors.
Current Chinese projects include the Art Deco-inspired Bellagio Shanghai Bund hotel and Four Seasons Hotel Tianjin—both expected to open next year.
WATG and Wimberly Interiors specialize in providing strategy, planning, architecture, urban, interior, and landscape services from offices in Singapore; Honolulu; Seattle; Los Angeles and Irvine, California; Chicago; Miami; New York; London; Istanbul; and Dubai.
