Choice Hotels has announced the opening of the first New York location of its highest-end brand, Cambria Suites, located in Chelsea’s Flower District.
The 56,500-square-foot, 18-story hotel was designed by Gene Kaufman Architect (GKA) and developed by Robert and Philip Chun of We Care Trading Company.
“Choice invited us to completely reimagine Cambria’s interiors, and that’s what we’ve done,” says Gene Kaufman, principal of GKA. “The layout and design of both the common areas and the suites work together to maximize open space and deliver a fun, fresh, and distinctly New York sensibility.”
GKA designed the interiors and 135 suites with contemporary, floral decor and industrial materials in reference to its neighborhood. Floral wall hangings in the lobby and suites by local artist Liora Manne pop with jewel-like colors, and are mirrored in photo collages throughout the corridors. Each room features plank flooring, soft lighting, and gold-accented drapery.
The open loft-like lobby flows seamlessly into the neighboring lounge-bar and dining areas and features groupings of custom-upholstered couches and sectional pieces lounge chairs. Concrete and raw-wood planked flooring is juxtaposed with concrete wall finishes and industrial overhead light fixtures based on those originally found in Chelsea factories.
