Hilton Worldwide has opened the Hilton Barra hotel, its first location in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“The opening of Hilton Barra Rio de Janeiro is a momentous occasion for Hilton Worldwide, as it marks our entry into this important Latin America destination,” says Tom Potter, Hilton’s senior vice president, Caribbean, Mexico and Latin America.
Situated in the city’s Barra da Tijuca neighborhood 30 minutes from Rio de Janeiro Galeão International Airport and five minutes from Jacarepaguá Airport in Barra da Tijuca, the 298-room, nine-story hotel was developed by Carvalho Hosken S/A. The approximately 121-foot-high lobby is wrapped in glass so that when it is illuminated, it glows from without, while works by local artists decorate the interior. Energy and water consumption have been minimized using an automated system to control energy efficiency.
“Hilton Barra Rio de Janeiro is a one-of-a-kind property featuring a sleek, sustainable design that nods to the rich culture of this historic, cosmopolitan city and elevates our overall presence in this pivotal Latin America destination,” says Rob Palleschi, global head of full service brands, for Hilton. “This project marks an exciting milestone for Hilton as we continue to break into new Latin American markets to deliver the unmatched hospitality experience Hilton is known for.”
Amenities include more than 14,000 square feet of meeting space amongst 10 event rooms and two ballrooms with the capacity to hold 950 guests, and a restaurant able to hold up to 140 guests. The rooftop features a pool, bar, and fitness center.
