InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a management agreement with Diamond Developers to launch the Hotel Indigo Dubai the Sustainable City.
The 170-room property will serve as the company’s second Hotel Indigo in the UAE and third in the Middle East with 10 more IHG properties due to open in the next three to five years. It will be positioned in the Sustainable City—Dubai’s first sustainable integrated development designed to meet high-environmental, social, and commercial sustainability standards—and will include residences, a green school, a community center, an equestrian center, solar-covered parking lots, an organic farm, a planetarium, and a grass amphitheater.
As a sustainable net-zero energy building, the hotel will use solar power to satisfy all of its energy needs. Wastewater will be recycled, and all material waste will be sorted at the source for recycling. Amenities include solar-powered shuttle bus transportation.
“Dubai is a truly global city and is expanding in new and interesting ways every day,” says Faris Saeed, CEO of Diamond Developers. “The Sustainable City will set the standard for environmental standards and will include a number of interesting tourist attractions as well as venues to attract business events and meetings. Hotel Indigo is the perfect brand for this new community, and with IHG’s strong track record of operating hotels in the UAE, we’re confident the hotel will be a success here.”
The property is scheduled to open in the first half of 2017.
