Marriott International’s Autograph Collection Hotels portfolio is slated to add a new boutique property to its collection next month with the Hotel in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Located in a corner building completed in 1907, the Hotel originally opened in 2000 as an urban design hotel owned by hotelier and gastronomist Urs Karli who redesigned the property with French architect Jean Nouvel.
“We are delighted to welcome our second design hotel from Switzerland into the Collection,” says John Licence, brand leader for the Autograph Collection in Europe. “The Hotel was the first boutique design hotel to enter this market and is known for being part hotel, part contemporary art installation. It’s this unique attribute that makes it perfect for joining Autograph Collection Hotels.”
Nouvel’s interior redesign incorporates his signature interplay of wood and steel. The seven-floor hotel features 30 studios and suites with individual design concepts that play on light and color. Four penthouse suites all feature roof terraces, while the 10 garden and park loft suites include patios. An understated corridor leads to guestrooms with large windows and different ceiling or wall projections depicting 30 film scenes from the architect’s own background.
The lobby was renovated as a focal meeting point and includes an area for lounging and dining, as well as the Bam Bou restaurant and the lounge bar.
The Autograph brand anticipates the addition of its 100th hotel by the end of the year.
