The Asbury will soon debut within real estate investment trust (REIT) iStar’s multibillion-dollar Asbury Park development, a mixed-use site in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
Anda Andrei, former design director for the Ian Schrager Company, will serve as the project’s creative lead—a position that will see her develop the town’s first new hotel to open in more than 50 years—and will work alongside hotelier David Bowd, who will manage the property upon completion.
“This historic building is a beautiful blank canvas for us to create a special place that adds to the unique spirit of Asbury Park,” says Andrei. “I love collaborating with immense talent and knew instinctively David had to be involved. He has a wonderful gift for connecting the hospitality experience with one-of-a-kind communities, and we bring out the very best in one another.”
New York-based Stonehill & Taylor Architects will repurpose the hotel from a former Salvation Army building, which will feature an aesthetic inspired by the area’s Victorian-era history and modern music scene.
The expansive lobby’s front desk will double as the Counter, a grab-and-go kitchen, while the ground floor’s rec room-inspired Soundbooth lounge will offer ping-pong, pinball machines, board games, and a communal work station.
New York-based Bonetti and Kozerski will design the 110 bungalow-style guestrooms that include queen, king, and family-sized accommodations, as well as bunk-style guestrooms with an eight-person capacity. Monochromatic wall art within will depict beach scenes and music-inspired imagery.
Additional facilities will include the Baronet, a rooftop garden that nods to Manhattan’s Central Park, which will offer oversized games during the day and movies projected on a 20-foot wall at night; a pool deck and bar; the Beergarden, which will host food and beer trucks next to the outdoor pool; and the 5,000-square-foot Salvation, an outdoor social spot on the hotel’s upper roof with monochromatic décor lit only by candles and lanterns and views of the Atlantic Ocean.
The 2,800-square-foot Asbury Hall & Lawn will serve as a flexible indoor-outdoor meeting and events space with the option to sub-divide into two or three smaller parts.
