Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide plans to expand its St Regis, The Luxury Collection, and W Hotels brands to include 200 luxury hotels within the next two years, with 30 luxury properties opening in 2016 alone. Starwood will debut its brands in 19 new countries over the next five years.
“Luxury is becoming borderless and driving us to think differently about our business: from the unique design of our hotels to the thoughtful programming that brings our brands to life and the leading-edge technology that enables us to deliver personalized service consistently around the world,” says Paul James, global brand leader of St. Regis, The Luxury Collection and W Hotels Worldwide. “As Generation Luxury becomes more diverse, discerning, and digitally connected, we are strategically growing our portfolio beyond the traditional luxury grid with hotels opening in destinations ranging from Mumbai to Milan and Beijing to Bogota.”
Starwood’s immediate focus in 2015 is on renovating nearly 40 percent of its W Hotels in North America, including revamps to the Palace Hotel in San Francisco and the St. Anthony in San Antonio. It will double its luxury portfolio in the Middle East to 14 hotels within the next three years, and nearly double its luxury footprint in China over the next two years. The company will also debut luxury brands Suiran in Japan and the St. Regis in Mumbai in March.
