Architecture firm Aedas has completed the new SHUIBEI International Centre in Shenzhen, China. The new mixed-use tower ascends nearly 700 feet above the heart of the Chinese jewelry trade in the Luohu District as a symbol of contemporary urban renewal. In addition to Grade-A offices and residences, SHUIBEI International Centre is home to retail, F&B, entertainment, and other attractions.
The landmark’s design draws inspiration from traditional Chinese bamboos to represent prosperity, virtue, and purity. The podium is reminiscent of a wide bamboo leaf and wraps the entire commercial portion of the building with a curved outline and LED screen. After sunset, a stripe of light illuminates the tower, echoing the urban texture of the city. Voids within the façade are outfitted with greenery to provide a range of sky gardens as well as a landscaped rooftop to enhance the quality of life within the dense urban infrastructure.
