Chef David Burke has introduced his latest eatery in New York with Tavern62 by David Burke, named for its location on East 62nd Street. Andres Escobar of Escobar Design by Lemay crafted the 3,265-square-foot, two-floor restaurant to honor the refined qualities of historic New York.
The restaurant’s first floor hosts a lounge complete with a wood bar and banquette seating. The space’s traditional details like warm burnt orange hues and dark wood furnishings are featured alongside contemporary accents such as whimsical bowler-shaped sconces hanging above red leather banquettes. Locally themed artwork, some from the chef’s personal collection, is showcased, including a vintage Bugatti race model hanging over the bar.
The second level opens to a landing with preparations areas, a dessert counter, and a wine closet. A private dining alcove at the head of the stairs is dressed in backlit bricks composed of pink Himalayan sea salt—a signature Burke motif—and black and white floor tiles. Also on the second level, the relaxed main dining room features soft lighting, rich navy upholstery, and original artwork. A library-themed space is located at the back of the dining room for private events, and includes both banquettes and long rows of table seating for nearly 50 people. A glass-enclosed solarium offers al fresco dining, weather permitting.
