ATX Cocina has debuted in Austin with a lofty, greenhouse-style design, courtesy of locally based practice Michael Hsu Office of Architecture. Located within the base of a downtown residential complex, the modern Mexican restaurant is lined with floor-to-ceiling windows and light wood surfaces.
Wood detailing and geometric shapes are appointed beneath arched ceilings of lightly toned hemlock and pine. A geometric pattern of rifled wood panels adorns the ceiling, while a glazed partition spans the cross section of the dining room, complementing an upholstered built-in bench and tables. Flooring and tabletops are made of a darker-toned pecan wood with geometric art from local artist Aaron Michalovic. Cabinetry crafted from vetiver green-wire mesh and blackened steel contrast copper accents and red tones.
In addition to an open kitchen, other spaces include the wine counter, crudo area, and an outdoor dining section shaded with large oak trees.
