Designed by New York-based AvroKO, Jams restaurant has opened at 1 Hotel Central Park in New York following the hotel’s recent debut.
Named in homage to the original 1980s Upper East Side flagship Jams, the 110-seat eatery is helmed by chef and restaurateur Jonathan Waxman.
“The original Jams played a big part in spreading the farm-to-table gospel,” says Waxman. “Roll forward 30 years and it’s now the new norm. What’s often forgotten about California cuisine is that it draws upon French, Italian, and Asian techniques. Bringing that together with seasonality and a healthy dose of spontaneity is at the heart of Jams.”
Since AvroKO designed both spaces, the restaurant aesthetically mirrors 1 Hotel Central Park and features white oak, raw terracotta, and an organically inspired color palette.
Natural light illuminates the dining area via soaring two-story windows set below an exposed ceiling. Glassware was sourced from the original Jams restaurant for the 20-seat bar, where guests may sit in addition to tables with views of the open kitchen.
