British architectural interior design studio B3 Designers has completed work on Sackville’s, a new restaurant in London.
Located in West London’s Mayfair district, the two-floor restaurant occupies the space of the former Carr Woor and Sons tailor shop. The interiors and brand identity were inspired by this tailor’s work during the 1960s and the black hue of a truffle, which appears in various culinary offerings throughout the menu.
The restaurant’s sandstone façade features dark gray woodwork and discrete signage for a speakeasy-inspired atmosphere. Within, pre-existing brickwork juxtaposes with French oak parquet flooring on the ground floor—once the tailors’ showroom. A chilled display case that contains hanging meat overlooks the stairwell to the basement and bears the white neon words “accept the mystery.” Its textured glass is framed with antique brushed brass. Walnut banquettes are lined with mossy green leather and paired with midcentury-inspired seating upholstered in brown leather. Industrial wall mirrors trimmed with brass allow guests to view the food preparation from one of four adjacent counter seats.
Meanwhile, the basement contrasts the showroom-inspired space above with more utilitarian elements influenced by its original use as a workroom. Walls clad in sheets of brown paper encompass banquettes upholstered in aged leather. Serving as the room’s focal point, a four-seat speakeasy-style bar is topped with reclaimed wood and includes a brass-and-glass cabinet back-bar display.
