Located within Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, the new restaurant Bang Up to the Elephant! has arrived with a lavish aesthetic. Named for the Victorian slang meaning “complete and properly done,” the new Calypso eatery romantically blends indoor and outdoor spaces across 6,000 square feet in a design from artist and restaurateur Kevin Delk.
Housed behind a historic 20th century brick façade, Bang Up to the Elephant! welcomes diners with a tropical, exterior mural from local artist Annie Brewster. Black pane French doors line the face of the building, guiding guests into the main space where a café area is anchored by an eight-foot-tall tiered fountain. Camouflage patterns adorn the concrete floors, upon which eight 12-foot-tall, multicolored glass panels partition the front café from the dining room. In addition to a walk-up window and barista bar, the restaurant includes nearly 1,000 plants that are nurtured thanks to skylights and a drip-line irrigation system. In a nod to the Caribbean, cinderblocks are installed, and cedar plank booths are decorated with palm fronds and tropical leaves. Long, wooden communal tables are situated at the heart of the dining room, accented by vintage-inspired seating that recalls the old colonial era of the Caribbean as well.
The Victorian-era inspired bar is equipped with elegant, cantilevered back shelves, complemented by handmade cast iron barstools as well as pink and blue backlighting. Cinderblocks also line the walls to the bathrooms, which are backlit with multicolored lights.
