France- and Morocco-based architect and designer Gregoire Maisondieu has unveiled his design of Black Pepper, a new restaurant in Meknes, Morocco. The dual-level eatery spans more than 1,800 square feet and features a dense network of louvers that poetically filter natural light into the dining room.
A raw palette of burned wood, brick, and concrete characterizes the 80-seat interior. The space is anchored by an open bar, and the wall of the mezzanine is outfitted with portholes to provide a glimpse into the Black Pepper kitchen. Showcasing precision and refinement, furnishings showcase materials such as leather, locally sourced cedar, and black marble from a nearby quarry. Greenery installed in large terracotta pottery punctuates the interior as well.
