Adelaide, Australia-based design firm Studio Gram has crafted Chica Bonita, a new, joyful Mexican eatery in Sydney. Formerly a bike shop, the space was entirely stripped back to accommodate the new concept, preserving a few elements from the original structure such as stone archways, tin ceilings, and parquet floors.
Recalling the rustic iconography of Mexican deserts and the Baja Peninsula through its terracotta tones and staggered elements such as the shelving in the bar, the new concept also features a service corner wrapping around the open kitchen, lined with a terrazzo-like countertop and accompanied by square dining tables with brown leather seating. Chica Bonita also offers booths outfitted with mustard- and rust-toned cushioning, while its bathrooms feature delicate details like stepped reliefs across peripheral walls and a tiered wall recess.
