The Lahofer Winery has been completed in the Moravian countryside of the Czech Republic. A fusion of longstanding regional wine traditions and contemporary design, the new attraction was crafted by CHYBIK + KRISTOF to showcase modern winemaking across three facilities: a visitor center and tasting room, administrative base, and winemaking complex.
Unfolding into the native terrain, Lahofer Winery exudes openness and an aesthetic inspired by the area’s architectural traditions. Reminiscent of arched wine cellars, a colonnade of vaulted beams frame interior spaces where concrete arches are styled to fit specific ceiling angles. The visitor center is enclosed in a glass façade to infuse abundant natural light, while wood, concrete, and glass compose the interior of the nearby tasting room, where a large-scale mural by Czech artist Patrik Hábl covers the ceiling. Inside the winemaking structure, dual halls highlight different aspects of the process, and an undulating concave roof was also conceived to host programming across the amphitheater-style space.
“The design of the Lahofer Winery is deeply rooted in nature, and in the respect thereof,” says firm cofounders Ondřej Chybík and Michal Krištof. “At a time when culture and nature appear to be antagonistic forces, we envision a space reflective of the longstanding symbiosis between the two in the region—one that profoundly respects the environment on which it rests.”
