A new Cocina Abierta location has opened on the third floor of Artz Pedregal mall in Mexico City. Spread across 17,760 square feet, the new eight-kitchen food hall is crafted by MYT+GLVDK to maximize its generous footprint with numerous facilities from a children’s play zone to private dining and meeting spaces.
Beyond a façade composed of black brick and large sliding windows, a large staircase welcomes visitors to the amenities on the second floor. The interiors offer custom elements, from an oval bar to suspended lighting, concrete and terrazzo flooring, and a variety of contemporary furniture pieces. At the back, a large terrace brings in light and provides views of the area’s lush vegetation for a calming respite from the city.
The food hall features two more traditional restaurant spaces: La Imperial and Moshi-Moshi. The former recalls traditional cantinas, with late 19th-century Mexican design details such as a mirrored bar, galvanized ceiling, and burnt-red floor. The latter, an outpost of the well-known conveyor-belt sushi concept, reflects the aesthetic of traditional Japanese izakayas. Walls are detailed with petatillo to recall the texture of tatami, while lamps are reinterpretations of rice paper lanterns accented with bamboo rings.
