Los Angeles–based multidisciplinary studio Commune has unveiled its design of gluten-free bakery BreadBlok‘s first brick and mortar shop in Santa Monica, California. A warm, rustic interior of limestone, plaster, and wood bonds the bakery with its sunny beachside locale.
The design echoes traditional market venues of Europe, complete with alder wood shelves, canvas and linen textiles, and a terracotta-tiled floor. Handwoven rope baskets made by local artist Dax Savage and converted into light fixtures are suspended from the ceiling. A limestone countertop is installed upon textured stone plinths, while a storage structure is crafted from pale alderwood to further emphasize the natural palette across the sundrenched confectionary.
