The new Amsterdam restaurant Neni radiates authenticity as it channels the laid-back ambiance of the eastern Mediterranean culture. Housed within a former garage for the French car manufacturer Citroën, it upcycles the site’s industrial aesthetic with an interior crafted by by locally based design firm, concrete.
The indoor-outdoor eatery features immersive features like a custom greenhouse that accommodates the front portion of the kitchen. Reinforcing the outdoors are large fig trees emerging from bench seating along with lantern-like lamps. At the back wall of the space is a beverage station, where the round seating enclaves abound to provide intimacy. The Mediterranean design vernacular is further evoked by the backlit floor-to-ceiling shutters. Atop the restaurant is the Lemonman Bar on the mezzanine floor, anchored by a freestanding bar framed with a glass wall, and outfitted with a custom-made leather bench that resembles the heritage of Citroën.
