Dao Dao Coffee has opened in the Intime City Commercial District of Chengdu, China. Chinese firms HAD Architects and EPOS crafted the 700-square-foot concept with perforated metal and wood paneling to infuse warmth and capture natural light.
Upholstered furniture and greenery are featured in the design along with a staircase that extends from a bookcase. Clad with rows of bookshelves, the upper level of the café features a backlit barreled ceiling to create a trompe l’oeil effect, while the lower level is characterized with a moodier black palette offset by blond timber. Wood also spans the ceilings to further balance the darker elements. Seating is set against framed views of a nearby public piazza.
