DesignLSM is set to unveil a tribute to Benihana founder Hiraoki “Rocky” Aoki with a new location in Glasgow. Slated to arrive in the Scottish city in early February 2019, the new Benihana will feature subversive visual cues that reflect the brand’s ethos.
Interiors will be clad with a minimal palette of polished plaster, pale oak, and Shou Sugi ban—or charred timber. The inviting ambiance is amplified via red and black tones, while playful details are expressed through striking floor tiles and manga-inspired illustrations that channel the colorful personality of Aoki. The central, bespoke dining structure comprises five live cooking stations that showcase the signature teppanyaki experience.
